bio

Born and raised on the West Coast of Canada (Vancouver), Vincent Lui relocated to the center of the universe (Toronto) in the early 2010’s until he made the terrible decision to buy a loose pile of bricks in the shape of a house in the Hammer (Hamilton).

Holding a BA in English Literature from Simon Fraser University, he was a great academic failure to his parents (they’re Chinese). Nonetheless, they still love him, even if they never say it (very Chinese).

He is a graduate of the BIPOC Kid’s TV Writing Bootcamp/Incubator and was part of the Canadian Film Centre’s inaugural Bell Media Prime Time Comedy TV Writing Program in 2023.

His past work includes writing for kids’ 6-9 animation (Pet Shop Zombies, Future Chicken), preschool animation (L’il Stompers), and live action webseries (Tokens on Call: Season 2).

When he’s not writing for himself, he does copy-editing for books and corporate communications because as much as he loves the art of screenwriting, he also enjoys eating regularly.

He loves funny, especially funny with heart and is currently developing two 11-minute animated action comedies (target demo 6-9, 6-11), a 7-minute animated preschool soft curriculum show, two half hour comedies, and a graphic novel, while rebuilding a Victorian house from the ground up.

He firmly believes great stories come from bad decisions. He has a lot of great stories.
